Hi,
Prior to sterilising instruments in the autoclave, should you srub the intruments and then put in the ultrasonic or ultrasonic first and then scrub the instruments? We always tend to scrub as the ultrasonic doesn't always get off the debris, especially if the dentist is annoying enough to leave on cement!
I personally scrub first, but some of the girls do the ultrasonic first. Some argue that the ultrasonic solution can kill bacteria etc so its safer when scrubbing the instruments AFTERWARDS by hand and then sterilising.
Thanks

Hiya, I used to be cross-infection lead nurse at my old practice and was informed by the PCT as part of my training that the correct way to do it is Ultra-sonic then hand scrub wearing heavy duty gloves if there is still debris, hope this helps.
cheers,
