Abit of controversy now.............. BADN, what are the benefits of joining this association? Personally every dental nurse I speak to (except my line manager, who's 20 years behind the rest of still ) thinks this group is out of touch and offers absolutely no benefits at all ( graet rates on car insurance, 10% of figleaves, give me a bl**dy break!). Is the BADN actively doing anything to promote Dental nurses or dental nursing to the general public? Louise

Hi When I registered with the GDC my tutor advised that I join the BADN which i did. I realise that some of the benefits are possibly never going to be used but the main one for me was the indemnity insurance. I did not have it where I worked and was not covered by my employers so I joined mainly for that as apparently we all need it once registered. The other good thing is that it offers free legal advice on basically anything again something we hope never to need but you never know. They also give all sorts of information that sometimes we dont get to know through our employers. Sometimes its nice to have someone that you can turn to if your not sure about something, I joined in January and I have contacted them once in regard to a problem at work and I have used their free legal advice over something not related to work. In my opinion I am glad I joined but its down to everyones personal opinion. Hope this helped a little.

I'd rather the BADN spent some time promoting DN's and sorting out that uninspiring website.

I think its nice to have our own professional association, as dental nurses, its all about us nurses, no dentists. so I think its relevant to us all. I know its an expense that we none of us need but if we ever needed to turn to BADEN I know they would be there for us.
